The Green Starship and the Sacred Pause

Beloved companions, cannabis is the green starship carrying us beyond the ordinary orbit of our anxieties. We gather to remember that kindness is sacred and this flower is a light…

Greetings, my beloved congregation, fellow travelers on the fragrant path. Welcome to the United Church of Cannabis. Whether you are a long-time companion of the leaf or a newcomer seeking enlightenment within these hallowed walls, I am overjoyed to see so many familiar faces here today.

We gather today, beloved buds, as a congregation of the curious, the kind, and the chronically overextended. Before we speak of the mysteries of the universe or the cosmic absurdity of our daily grind, I must ask you to do one thing. Please, find a comfortable cushion, settle in, and let us take a deep, collective breath together.

Take a breath. Not the quick, polite one you give a smartwatch to appease an alert, but a real one. Ahhh, can you feel that?. That is the beginning of the Gospel of the Slow Exhale.

We live in a world that is moving too fast. It is a world where humanity collectively agrees to stare at a clock, pretend we understand time, and shout numbers at one another as if that solves the riddle of existence. We stress over the holidays, wrapped in memory and expectation, and we judge ourselves for the questionable dance moves or the karaoke of nights past. But here, in this sacred space, we forgive ourselves for last night’s karaoke. Here, we recognize that we do not need to be told what to believe, but rather, we gather to remember what we already know.

And what do we know? We know that kindness is sacred, that laughter is healing, and that cannabis—this sacred flower—is a light we carry.

I want to talk to you today about perspective. We often view ourselves merely as passengers on this rock, passively watching the scenery blur by. But I tell you today, beloved companions, we gather not as passengers, but as explorers—floating together in the great unknown.

Think of cannabis not just as a plant, but as our green starship. It is the vessel that carries us beyond the ordinary orbit of our anxieties and our to-do lists. When we partake, we are opening the pod bay doors to a new way of seeing. We are stepping onto the elevated path, or as we might call it, the green road.

On this road, we encounter what I like to call “cosmic absurdity”. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy speaks of turkeys as large, feathered beings, reminding us of the humor embedded in creation. Life is often ridiculous. It is full of countdowns, confetti, and poultry. If we take it too seriously, we miss the point.

The point, my friends, is the connection we share right now. The holidays and the new years will come and go. The year will roll a joint of its own making, whether we are ready for it or not. But the sacred art of slowing down is what allows us to enjoy the burn.

So, as we move through this service and back out into the world, I invite you to embrace the slow exhale. When the world demands you rush, when the expectations of the season weigh heavy on your heart, remember that you are an explorer on a green starship. You have the power to shift your orbit.

Let us be kind to one another. Let us remember that kindness is sacred. Let us laugh at the cosmic absurdity. And let us walk this elevated path together, breathing deeply, forgiving freely, and lighting the way for those still stuck in the dark.

Go in peace, beloved believers. You have crossed the threshold.

Amen, and high regards to you all.
